Undergraduate Research | Erin Wash

Erin Wash, a Biochemistry major advised by Vince Friedewald of the Department of Preprofessional Studies, participated in a new clinical research project on campus analyzing blood pressure and hypertension among undergraduates. Twenty-five students were involved in developing the protocol used for the study, as well as the collection and analyses of the data. The students took blood pressure of more than 1,000 undergraduates and collected demographic, personal and family health history, and personal habit information. Researchers found that men and those with larger body mass were more likely to have high blood pressure. Organizers expect the study to continue with another group of students.
