Ted Brown’s extensive research experience and diversified skill set has prepared him well for medical school next year. He is a Biology and Anthropology double major, a captain of the Notre Dame men’s swim team, Assistant Executive Director of the club Fighting Irish for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and a member of the Academic Affairs Committee.

Through his work on prostate cancer and molecular biology research with Professor Martin Tenniswood, Ted created a Modified Gleason Score, called the Brown Score, to rank tumor progression in mice and monitored the growth of the prostate tissue of mice. The research, which was published and presented, has influenced Ted’s decision to continue to contribute to cancer research.

His other research experiences include histological analysis of prostate tumor progression also with Professor Martin Tenniswood, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and mother-infant co-sleeping studies with Professor Jim McKenna, mutual physiological regulatory affects and mother-infant pairs also with Professor Jim McKenna, and electronic medical records research with Dr. Rudolph Navari.

Ted’s undergraduate research experience has given him the opportunity to author a paper and two abstracts, attend a cancer biology symposium, meet with professors from other universities, and present his research results at national and local conferences. Because of his outstanding experiences and top grades, his advisor in the Center for Health Sciences Advising predicts that Ted will receive several medical school admissions offers.
