One word describes Mary Dubon, a 2006 Biology graduate from New York state: talented. Mary is the perfect example of how a student can integrate a variety of interests from Biology, research, and service to dance and theatre.
As a Teaching Assistant for a freshman level biology laboratory, Mary prepared labs and aided in teaching a section of the lab. Over the summer, she was an undergraduate research assistant at Indiana University Medical School South Bend where she studied Natriuretic Peptides in Rainbow Trout under the direction of Professor Kenneth Olson.
In her freshman year, Mary founded Notre Dame’s first campus-wide dance show, “The Welsh Family Dance Show.” She was the director, producer, and head choreographer for all of the spring performances for three years. She also performed with the Pasquerilla East Musical Company in two 2006 musical theatre performances and as a member of the Advanced Irish Step Dance Team Member danced at pep rallies, basketball games, and on Live with Regis and Kelly.
During her four years at Notre Dame she was very involved in service. All four years she was a dedicated buddy to a local young girl with a developmental disability, and as a senior, she was the Service Commissioner of Biology Club and Vice President of the Best Buddies Club.
Her aspiration to become a developmental pediatrician has influenced her to “job shadow” a developmental pediatrician in the South Bend area and to provide weekly, intensive therapy for a child with Autism. After graduation, she performed clinical research as an Academic Associate in the Emergency Department of North Shore University Hospital in New York.
She is currently a medical student at Albany Medical College in New York.
