Research Facilities
Environmental Research Center (UNDERC)
The University of Notre Dame Environmental Research Center focuses on basic and applied research and educational programs that explore solutions to global environmental problems based on an understanding of undisturbed natural habitats and biological diversity.
Freimann Life Sciences Center
This center maintains, under tightly controlled conditions, the laboratory animals critical to University research projects in the life sciences.
Institute for Structure & Nuclear Astrophysics
This is one of only three medium-scale accelerator laboratories in the United States funded by the National Science Foundation to perform basic research in a wide spectrum of areas that overlap with most of the highest priority scientific objectives in modern nuclear physics.
Large Binocular Telescope
When completed the Large Binocular Telescope will be the largest telescope in the world on a single mount. The LBT Project is managed and funded by an international consortium from Arizona, Italy, Germany, Research Corporation, University of Notre Dame, and The Ohio State University.
Lizzadro Magnetic Resonance Research Center
This facility plays a critical role in the structural biology, biosynthetic chemistry and transgenic research carried out" at the University.
Mass Spectrometry Facility
The Mass Spectrometry Facility provides modern instrumentation and expertise for mass spectrometric analysis, a key tool in the analysis of large molecules supporting research in organic, inorganic and environmental chemistry as well as biochemistry at Notre Dame.
Optics Facility
The Optics Facility is listed underhoused in a modern seven-room suite in the basement of the Galvin Life Science Center and is equipped with two adjoining darkrooms. State-of-the-art equipment is available for doing standard photography. A full-time Optics technician assists faculty, graduate students and interested trainees in their research.
Science Computing Facility
The mission of the Science Computing Facilities (SCF) is derived from the College of Science's mission: We teach students in the university and advance scientific research. SCF takes as its fundamental mission to provide help in computing to those in the College of Science who are carrying out the teaching and research mission of the college.
Surface Analysis Facility
The Surface Analysis Faciliity of the University of Notre Dame houses a Kratos XSAM multi technique electron spectrometer. The instrument has been recently upgraded with a new Multi-channel detection system which replaces much of the instruments original electronics as well as the data sytem.
Zebrafish Facility
Created in 1995, the Zebrafish Facility provides a tool for both basic research and teaching in vertebrate genetics and developmental biology.
